Introduction

Africa is a large continent, with many National Parks and opportunities to see wild animals in many different countries. Whilst we can offer safaris in all safari destinations, we recommend for those going for the first time that you concentrate on Tanzania and Botswana; specifically the Serengeti in Tanzania and the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Both regions and countries are safe and stable with two of the world’s prime animal viewing areas within their borders.

For a family Tanzania is ideal as it is child friendly and there is plenty for them to see. Most of Botswana’s lodges and camps have an over 12 child policy and many discourage children altogether.

For single women a safari is an ideal vacation as you can share game viewing activities during the day and dinner and the campfire at night.

A safari is also ideal for a group of friends and there are good reductions for parties of up to 10/14 guests.

Broadly speaking we can offer exclusive safaris in Tanzania, where you have your own guide and vehicle (and camp) at your disposal, for other countries it is normal to share the guide and vehicle at the lodge and camp with others. It is possible to have an escorted safari too - please ask.

Prices vary enormously depending on season, locations, internal charter flights and duration, but start at around $2,000 and rise to $45,000 for a 7-10 days, per person. Child discounts are available, but are not generous.

Safaritracks is able to offer often better priced safaris than some other operators as we have partners in Africa who own their own Lodges and run their own safari operations. So you will be dealing directly through us with them - THERE ARE NO THIRD PARTIES in this instance and you can be assured that we know the guides and the Lodge Managers and Owners. Many have at least 80% return rates!

In Tanzania safaris are run by Gibbs Farm Safaris, a Safaritracks partner or by Safaritracks own guide Andrew Uronu.

Generally all prices in Tanzania include safari led by guide, full board, Park fees, all laundry and drinks (except champagne), temporary membership of Flying Doctor’s Service and internal flights as outlined in itinerary. They do not include International air fares, airport taxes, insurance (which is mandatory) and any visa fees (currently $50 per person).

Below you will find vacations. Need advice or recommendations complete the Registration Planning Form or for general information contact us at safaritracks@yahoo.com.

We would love to share our passion for Africa with you. NOTE ALL PRICES ARE IN US $, unless specified otherwise.

    Diving in Zanzibar

Diving vacations, either in combination with a safari or taken as a pure diving vacation in Zanzibar are available. Below is details of Matemwe Bungalows on Zanzibar's top East Coast.

One hour by road from airport and Stone Town. This delightful, relaxed place sits atop a dead coral outcrop. All bungalows built of local materials, with verandahs facing lagoon and reef. Diving school on site, snorkel locally or swim in lagoon. Watch or join local fishermen. Walk along endless white sandy beaches.

Mlango Dive Centre runs dive and snorkel trips around nearby Mnemba Island and the fringing reef in front of the hotel. This are offers some of the most varied dive sites around Zanzibar.

The PADI affiliated Mlango dive centre is small but professionally run, with modern equipment such as US Divers Conshell 22 regulators (complete with octopus rigs, ait gauges, direct feeds and electronic depth/dive timers) and Seaqueat BCDs. Air is provided through a Bauer Mariner compressor guaranteeing a fresh, clean breathing supply.

Diving is from traditional style sailing dhow (locally called a mashua) equipped with outboard motor. Ngalawa are smaller boats fashioned from a mango tree and balanced with outriggers, for the more adventurous.

Diving conditions around Zanzibar are generally good, visibility ranges from 15-30 metres. The diving is subject to the usual tidal problems, but currents are not fierce and the sea is generally calm. In July the sea gets a bit more choppy with the winds blowing from the South. The winds calm down during August and September reaching a calm period of light Easterly breezes in October and November. The short rains come into the area during late November/early December and this can cause algal bloom, which can reduce visibility to 12 metres. The bloom is, however, normally shortlived.

Dolphins are often seen swimming alongside the boats and there is a huge variety of marine life to be seen for divers and snorklers alike.

Dive trips are normally single cylinder but double can be arranged.
